Our Story

What we do and why the base matters most

We pour and finish concrete for homeowners in San Mateo and the surrounding Peninsula, driveways, patios, walkways, steps, and retaining walls. Most of us came up doing the demo and base work before ever running a finish trowel, and that order matters, because the base decides whether a slab lasts.

If you're on this page, there's a good chance you've got a slab that's cracked, sunk, or pooling water somewhere it shouldn't. Cracking usually traces back to soil movement or joints spaced wrong to begin with, and sinking usually means the base underneath was never compacted right. We fix the base first, set joints where the slab actually wants to crack, and give you a real cure schedule before anyone drives or sets furniture on it.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

Licensed and insured work means you're not the one holding the risk if something goes wrong mid-pour. We can hand over certificates on request before work starts.

Written, Itemized Quotes

Every quote breaks out demo, base work, concrete, and finish separately so you can see where the money's going. We don't add scope once the forms are set unless something unexpected turns up underground.

We Show Up On Schedule

Concrete scheduling depends on weather and cure time, so we build a little slack into the plan instead of promising a date we can't keep. If rain is coming, we'll tell you days ahead, not the morning of.

Our Own Crew

We don't subcontract the pour out to whoever's available that week. The same people who walk the site with you are the ones finishing the concrete.

Clean Site When We Leave

Demo debris and leftover base rock get hauled off the same week, not left piled by the curb. We sweep and rinse down driveways and walkways before we call a job finished.

We Know Bay Area Soil

San Mateo County clay expands and contracts more than most soil types, which is why so much flatwork around here cracks early. We compact the base and set joints with that movement in mind instead of using one approach everywhere.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about who you'd actually be hiring.

How long have you been doing concrete work?
Experience in concrete work shows most in judging soil conditions and knowing how a specific mix will cure in local weather, skills that come from years of pours rather than a single project. Asking to see examples of completed driveways or patios in the area is a direct way to judge experience.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
A dedicated concrete crew can handle forming, pouring, and finishing directly rather than passing the job to subcontractors who weren't part of the original estimate. That keeps the same people accountable from the walkthrough to the final finish.
Can I see examples of past concrete work?
Photos of completed driveways, patios, and retaining walls, especially ones with some age on them, show how a finish holds up over time rather than how it looks fresh out of the forms. Asking to see a job poured a few years back is more telling than one poured last month.
Why choose a smaller concrete contractor instead of a large company?
A smaller concrete outfit tends to keep the same crew on a job from estimate to finish, which matters because concrete work depends on consistent timing between demo, base prep, and the pour itself. Larger companies sometimes split those stages between different crews who've never seen the site before.
Where are you based?
This concrete contractor is based in San Mateo, CA, and works throughout the surrounding Peninsula within roughly a 50-mile radius. Being local means faster response for estimates and better familiarity with each city's permit requirements.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Concrete scheduling fills up faster in the dry months, roughly April through October, when pours aren't at risk from rain. Booking a few weeks ahead during that stretch secures a start date, while winter often has more immediate openings.
Do you clean up the site after the job is done?
Old concrete debris, excess base rock, and form lumber should be hauled off by the end of the job, not left for the homeowner to deal with. A finished site should be swept and rinsed down before the crew considers the job complete.
What happens if something gets damaged on my property during the work?
A licensed and insured concrete contractor carries liability coverage for accidental damage to sprinkler lines, fencing, or landscaping during demo and pours. Confirming insurance coverage before work starts protects the homeowner if equipment damages something nearby.
Will you finish a concrete job another contractor started or abandoned?
Picking up a partially finished concrete job is possible, but it usually starts with checking whether the existing forms, base compaction, and rebar placement meet code before building on top of someone else's work. Sometimes the unfinished portion needs to come out and start over rather than be built onto.
How can I tell if concrete work is being done correctly while it's in progress?
Proper base compaction, correctly spaced control joints cut within the first 24 hours, and the right rebar or mesh for the slab's purpose are the main things to look for during a pour. Asking the crew to walk through those steps before the truck arrives is reasonable and a sign of confidence in the work.
